GFP Sustainability Policy
Preservation is the only way to guarantee the future of the environment and our oceans. As leaders in the Shrimp and Fish industry, it is especially important to play a guiding role. Our sustainability policy is to make preservation a reality.
For us, sustainability is a simple commitment: only procure and sell Shrimp and Fish caught using methods that protect the long-term health of our oceans and their inhabitants, farmed in a way that does not have a negative impact on our environment. Sustainability is to do what is possible – and to do what is right.
Our commitment
Our commitment is to source all of our seafood from sustainable or responsible sources of supply. Responsibly sourced helps define our product specification requirements from sources that we have identified as being responsibly managed and on a clear, well-defined path toward achieving certification.
We have partnered with the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), Global Aquaculture Alliance/Best Aquaculture Practices (GAA/BAP), the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC), recognized as industry leaders in sustainability. And every possible step is taken to avoid fish acquired through illegal, unreported or unregulated catches.
A traceable “chain of custody” means the journey from the ocean, farm to your table is documented. GFP is working towards achieving traceability on all of our fish, seafood and prepared foods
When species are identified as being at great risk, we are committed to identifying a feasible alternative. This means sourcing the fish from suppliers who use fishing methods that are not as disruptive to the environment, choosing fish that has been caught in locations where quantities are not at risk of overfishing or offering an alternative specie to our customers.
